Solid Performer,
I’ve waited to review this Acer AS7741G-7017 so it would be a more informed and experienced based review. Overall this is a very nice looking and solid performing laptop that has a quality appearance and feel to it. The keyboard has a nice feel to it and the show is crisp. I multitask all the time on this and the performance is very excellent. I usually have a Word document open, Excel file, Interner browser and a cpu intensive trading program open that updates market data every 0.5 seconds and charts the data and I have experienced no delays or slowdowns in processing. In addition, sometimes I will watch a video while everything else is running. I really like this laptop overall and recommend it if it fits your needs. The Windows Experience Index rating is Processor 6.8, Memory(RAM) 5.9, Graphics 6.7, Primary Hard Disk 5.4. So this points out the slowness of the hard drive and the lower frequence RAM that is installed. So, if speed is primary, and your demands on this computers ability to process at higher speeds is that vital to you, you will want to upgrade and add a quicker hard drive and higher frequency RAM. I’m not a gamer so I can’t speak to that aspect of performance and the speed is quick enough for me right now, although I will probably add 8MB of 1333mhz RAM and a SSD (solid state drive) in the near future to maximize the speed, the Windows performance rating would be really high then. I’ve been connected to various wireless networks over the last month: hotels, coffee shops, libariries, and my home and have hed no problems connecting or dropping of the signal and the networks were a mixure of wireless-n and wireless-g signals. I’m usually on a wireless connection 3-5 hours a day. So there are plenty of strenghs to this laptop including quality construction, appearance, and performance. I’ve had zero reliability issues. I’ve owned Dell and HP laptops in the past and after buying this one I’ll never go back to those brands, I believe their quality and or price to not be as excellent a value as ACER. Coupled with this laptop being on sale, no tax, and no shipping, I reckon it a excellent value. I took a star off for the slow hard drive and slow RAM and for speakers that are rediculously weak (you will want earbuds or headphones for this laptop). I hope this review helps you make an informed choice on whether or not to buy the Acer AS7741G-7017.

|Mid end gaming laptop with everything you don’t need,
I’ve owned several mid-low end laptops over the years and this one is the best yet. Quick quick quick, I don’t notice much difference between my i7 desktop and this. Ofcourse the graphics card isn’t as quick as my desktop’s (desktop has an HD 5850) but I can’t see how you could run anything better without burning up the battery in 10 minutes. I can play Street fighter 4 with mostly everything maxed out except AA, if I add any AA the game slows down to under 40 FPS so it’s unplayable. for $800 you can’t beat it, and i’ve always had fantastic luck with acer, i’ve owned the aspire ONE and a different acer with a 17″ screen (which i dropped and broke) The texture on the laptop is a plus too, the smooth shiny stuff on my acer ONE netbook got scratched to hell and looked terrible even though it worked perfectly. I certainly recommend this laptop as an entry level gaming laptop. I would NOT buy anything with a less powerful graphics card, this one is just right for a laptop IMO. I noticed very small “bloatware” on this laptop which is always a plus, remember to make the backup DVD ASAP!

|Died after 4 months of use,
I’d previously given this laptop a 5 star review based on my impression of it’s hardware capabilities vs the low cost. I was impressed with the raw hardware performance. The ability to play modern games with moderate settings. It’s quick speed in multitasking. All of these were very impressive to me. The problem now after owning this laptop (very briefly. My previous laptop, a Dell, lasted 3 years and was used and abused and traveled across the country with me in every scenario you could imagine.) They Acer simply fell apart with minor use. The keys on the keyboard fells off. The hinges where the screen connects to the base cracked. And finally, after only 1 trip, the harddrive died. I lost everything I had backed up since I made the acer my primary laptop and got rid of my previous dell. I can assure you I will never buy another Acer product as long as I live. Currently pleased with my less technically impressive but much better built Asus laptop.
