Fantastic thought, poor quality,
The design is just what I had been looking for: a cooler pad that could fit my 17″ laptop and be used comfortably as a lap desk. I own two of them.
The plastic “bump” that angles the back of the laptop upward is a honest design, though one of the cooler pads I own has an unfortunate tendency to suddenly collapse back to being perfectly flat after it’s been shifted a few times. The other cooler pad doesn’t do this, so it may be a manufacturing flaw.
Both pads developed noisy fans within a couple months of buy. The fans grind like a lawnmower engine upon starting up and must be tapped until they settle down. They still rumble after that, but not as terribly. It sounds as though they are poorly balanced (vibrating) or dying. They deterioriated very rapidly. It’s not like these cooler pads were being dropped or subjected to large shocks. They were just being used normally — picked up, place down, shifted around, sometimes tilted side-side or back-front depending on how the user was sitting. It seems reasonable to expect that the fans don’t suddenly start grinding (loudly, I might add) one day after such tame treatment.

|Not terrible,
I was in the laptop cooler search for a long time – tried Targus, Antec – and finally came across this beauty. Vital for me were: (1) portability and (2) efficiency.
I’ve had this product now for nearly 2 years. No problem with excess fan noise or shoddy construction. I’ve taken it to Hong Kong with me in my backpack and had no problems with the shell.
Pros:
(1) It does what a laptop cooler should do! Essentially the optimal coolers are ones that give enough space both BELOW and ABOVE the unit to allow air to circulate. This one does both, although sometime I place my wallet in there to help the airflow.
(2) Works fantastic with my 15″ MBP, running bootcamp to play games the videocard get’s engaged and HOT. runs in a cooler range with this.
Cons:
(1) the other reviews don’t lie – the back tilt will come down and collapse if you’re moving this around all the time. I’ve never had this problem though since I connect my computer to an external monitor/keyboard and essentially don’t budge my laptop at all.
(2) No extra USB port (like the Belkin model).
(3) This really does not work well on the lap (adequate airflow is obstructed).
Other one’s you might consider:
(1) Something new that’s come out since I bought this is the Antec 200 cooling system. No USB ports, but looks much sturdier (and non-portable) than this unit. A lil’ pricier at $65 ish on Amazon.
(2) the Belkin laptop cooler – looks just like this but has 4 extra USB ports. Haven’t tried it yet, but hard to beat the deal for $20 at Costco.

|Fantastic design but doesn’t cool enough,
I’ve had this product for about a year or more and I do agree with the other reviewers that the height adjuster, will collapse suddenly. It’s because the adjuster is plastic and after a while the adjuster wears out, specially if you use the same height setting all the time. The adjuster can’t hold the weight of the laptop; the height adjuster should be metal so it can stay in place. This lap cooler should have more fans, it really depends on your laptop as to where it has the heat sink of the CPU. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p 15.4 and the heat sink is on the upper left bottom side, the fan on the lap cooler is in the middle so, it doesn’t cool that area well. Before you buy a lap cooler find out where the laptop produces more heat. There are models out there that have more than one fan so investigate before you buy. I like the black color because my laptop is black and the style/aesthetics of the cooler. You can rest your arms on its wrist rest for a more comfortable posture. I would’ve given it 5 starts if it had more fans and a metal height adjuster.
